Day 8 – Secret Society White 2022
Day 8, and the close to our second weekend!
We’ve passed the half-way mark, and thought it would be fun to toss in one of our most popular wines: Secret Society White. For those of you who’ve been along on our journey since the beginning…waaaaay back in 2014…you’ll know that this was the very first white wine we had in our portfolio. Although it has evolved a bit since that first vintage, the core concept of this wine still holds true: crisp, dry and aromatic.
I love when people ask why we don’t reveal the grape varieties on the label. The easy answer is simply that it’s fun! If you like blind tasting wines and trying to pick out flavours and aromas with a goal of nailing the grapes, then this is the wine for you. But the real reason is that we want to try and get past people’s preconceived notions about what think they like, and more importantly, what they think they don’t like. If you spent a day or two with us in the tasting room, you’d have a better understanding of this! So many times we have guests tell us that they don’t like this grape, or they don’t like that grape. And when they see that wine on our portfolio sheet, they don’t want to try it because they already “know” they aren’t going to like it. But when you don’t know what you are tasting, your mind isn’t getting in the way of your senses. We want people to experience this wine objectively and form an honest opinion of whether or not they like it.
With a name like Black Market, it should come as no surprise that there are a few things going on that we just can’t talk about. We set out to create a white blend that was exotically aromatic, crisp on the palate and balanced by citrus and tropical fruitiness…and that’s exactly what Secret Society delivers. But you know how the old saying goes: “If we told you what was in it, we’d have to…” You get the idea. Figure out what’s in this blend and you’re in our Secret Society! We’ve got 4 varietals in the blend this year. All of the varietals were fermented separately in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh aromatics of the fruit. The grapes in this blend come from vineyards in Kaleden.
Fresh, elegant notes of lemon peel, apple blossom and orchard fruit. The palate of this white blend is balanced and bright with lively acidity. This wine tastes of ripe nectarine, citrus punch and tropical fruit with a crisp, refreshing finish.
With its refreshing fruit flavours, Secret Society is perfect for an afternoon on the patio or an evening of al fresco dining. Pair it with grilled fish, mildly spiced Asian dishes, or a market salad with grilled chicken. It’s awesome with spicy chicken karage.
